Was Easter A Non-Event?
Was Easter A Non-Event?
To the Editor:
I wonder if anyone in Newtown, this year, missed any mention of Easter in The Bee? Aside from a small article on the Easter Egg Hunt, held at a local park, the most important religious holiday in the Christian liturgical year was totally bypassed.
Yes, I am aware that church service announcements were all nicely given on the usual page, set aside for such, and the advertisements â Easter bunnies, chocolates, flowers, clothes, etc â were scattered throughout the editions of Holy Week, Easter Week and the week following Easter, but there were no articles on the event itself (especially of local color).
Besides the âPost Resurrectional Appearancesâ of Jesus (to Mary Magdalene, Peter, the 11, the disciples on the road to Emmaus, those at the Son of Tiberias, to 500 believers, and finally to Paul), the most obvious sign of the Easter event was the empty tomb. Regretfully, there were no such appearances of Jesus, this Easter, in The Bee, only empty pages reflecting a non-event. Amen?
