Spring Show Opens Saturdayâ
Itâs A Busy Week For SCAN
And Regional Art Lovers
During the week of May 5 to 13, the Newtown-based club The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown will not only present one of its largest shows of the year but also host a meeting with a program by a guest visiting artist.
SCANâs 31st Annual Juried Spring Art Show will be presented at Cyrenius H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street in Newtown, for nine days. It will be on view May 5 to 13 during regular library hours.
The show will open Saturday, May 5, with a reception from 2 until 4 pm. An awards presentation will begin at 3 pm. Winners will be announced in next weekâs Newtown Bee.
The show, which is open to the public at no charge, will have over 100 works of art on view in oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, graphics, sculpture and mixed media. The artists submitting come from all over Connecticut as well as New York state.
On Wednesday, May 9, the art group will host an open meeting and program just up the hill from the library, at 31 Main Street.
Shauna Shane of Willington will be presenting a watercolor demonstration at Newtown Meeting House. Admission is free and open to the public.
Ms Shaneâs paintings are light-filled expressions of the world she sees around her. She has a classical academic training and has been influenced by the impressionistic paintings of Joaquin Sorollo, John Singer Sargent, Edgar Paine and Carol Rungus. In her demonstration she will be working from a still life that she will set up.
Before moving to Connecticut, Ms Shane was chosen for the prestigious resident artist position at Yellowstone National Park. Her landscapes, still life and figurative paintings â often created from life â have been exhibited in national and international competitions across the country.
