Poetry Reading Of Whitman And Dickinson
Poetry Reading Of Whitman And Dickinson
WASHINGTON â Gunn Memorial Library will host a poetry reading by Susan Kinsolving and Jack Gilpin of poems by Emily Dickinson and Walt Whitman on Sunday, May 20, from 4 to 6 pm.
The poems will explore several themes Walt Whitman and Emily Dickinson have in common, such as spirituality, sexuality and mortality. The poems themselves will illustrate sharp contrasts in their styles and yet underscore their commonality as contemporaries.
Susan Kinsolvingâs recent book of poems, Dailies & Rushes, was nominated for the National Book Critics Circle Award 2000, and critically acclaimed by The New York Times, The New Yorker, The Wall Street Journal, Kirkus, Publishers Weekly and Vanity Fair, among others.
Jack Gilpin has performed on Broadway in Christopher Durangâs Beyond Therapy; off-Broadway in A.R. Gurneyâs The Middle Ages and A Cheever Evening, and Larry Shueâs The Foreigner and in many productions at the Ensemble Studio Theatre, where he has been a member for over 20 years.
The program is free and open to the public. Gunn Memorial Library is at the juncture of Route 47 at 5 Wykeham Road, across from Washington Green. For further information, call the library at 860-868-7586.
