Helping The Anxious

Child Cope

The Family Counseling Center, a nonprofit mental health agency, will present a free public workshop, “Helping the Anxious Child Cope,” in the Community Meeting Room at the C.H. Booth Library on Main Street, from 7 to 8:30 pm on May 22.

All children experience anxiety. Anxiety in children is expected and normal at specific times in development. However, there are symptoms of severe anxiety that interferes with normal functions of childhood. If a parent notices such behaviors as refusal to go to school, intense fearfulness, racing or pounding heartbeat, dizziness or lightheadedness, shortness of breath, trembling or shaking, fear of dying or of losing control or going crazy, over clinginess or extreme worries, these may indicate severe anxiety. Learn about these symptoms and when a parent should consider seeking professional help.

Anna D’Aiuto, MFT, will conduct  this workshop. She has extensive experience working with children and families. Parents and educators are encouraged to attend. For more information, call the Family Counseling Center at 426-8103.
