Blood Drive On May 7

An American Red Cross Blood Drive will be held on Monday, May 7, from 8:30 am to 6:45 pm at the United Methodist Church, 94 Church Hill Road.

The drive is being sponsored by Newtown Savings Bank. For every pint of blood offered, NSB will donate $5 to the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps and $5 to Housatonic Habitat for Humanity.

“The donation to Habit helps defray the expenses of one of the Habitat delegates who went to the Dominican Republic recently on a blitz building project, building affordable houses. They were there 10 days,” said Joseph Humeston, NSB executive vice president.

Mr Humeston said the bank also got a matching contribution for the Habitat donation.

Supplying the blood needed for hospital patients in Connecticut is a never-ending process. An average of 600 pints each weekday are needed for hospitals in the state.

Blood donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in generally good health.

To make an appointment to give blood, call 800-GIVE-LIFE (800-448-3542).
