Merrill Artist Reception & Book Signing Planned
“David K. Merrill’s Lifetime of Painting,” a major exhibition of works by the former Newtown resident, is on view through May 31 in the meeting room and entry hall of C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street
Merrill is well known in Newtown for his murals at Edmond Town Hall, Newtown Municipal Center, and the 9/11 Flag Trees Memorial on Sugar Street/Route 302, as well as his other paintings.
Merrill’s love of New England has long inspired his paintings, capturing a nostalgic view of the area. His career spans more than 60 years and more than 3,000 paintings.
Doug Fedorko, a major collector of Merrill paintings, has selected nearly three dozen works from his personal collection for the exhibition. “David K. Merrill’s Lifetime of Painting” can be viewed any time the library is open, provided the meeting room is not in use (the hallway can always be accessed during business hours): Monday through Thursday, 9:30 am-8 pm; Friday and Saturday, 9:30 am-5 pm; and Sunday, 12-5 pm.
Many of the works are featured in the recently released book of the same name, published in December by Newtown Lions Club.
A special artist reception and book signing event is planned for Sunday, May 7, at 1 pm, with the artist in attendance. His books are available for purchase now at the front desk of the library and additional books will be available to purchase at the book signing.
All sales of the book are going to the local Lions Club, to help with their charitable initiatives.
Light refreshments will be served during the reception.
Registration is requested and can be done by calling 203-426-4533 or visiting chboothlibrary.org.
