Sandy Hook Arts & Crafts Festival Returns Saturday

Merchants in and around Sandy Hook Center are coordinating their efforts to present the 3rd Annual Sandy Hook Arts and Crafts Festival. This year’s event will be presented on Saturday, May 1, rain or shine from 10 am to 3 pm.

The festival will be presented in the businesses, parking lots, and along the sidewalks of Sandy Hook Center – the area at the intersection of Church Hill Road, Glen Road, Riverside Road and Berkshire Road. Plenty of parking areas will be set up, and all events will be within walking distance of each other.

While the forecast continued to be sketchy this week, event planners are committed to the the festival will be held rain or shine. Most events can move indoors easily, and the petting zoo – a big favorite last year – will have a tent set up to provide shelter for the animals and their visitors. This year’s festival will also offer a reptile show.

Fine artists and crafters will be set up in the parking lot of The Little Green Barn, 4 Washington Avenue. Jim Shortt will be returning also, setting up a farmer’s market in the same lot.

Children’s events will follow the theme of Wizards & Woodland Fairies and will include face painting, crafts, pony rides and a petting zoo. Crafts will include the creation of magic wands, crowns and hats, and bug boxes. Fairy Floss will be the special treat of the day. In the event of rain, the children’s crafts events will move into the undercroft of St John’s Episcopal Church.

Free maps presenting the layout of events and parking locations will be available.
