Postal Food Drive May 8

The National Association of Letter Carriers will hold its 12th annual food drive on Saturday, May 8.

Residents are asked to put nonperishable food next to their mailboxes by 9 am that day to be collected by volunteers. Locally, the food is distributed to the Salvation Army food pantry in the town’s social services department and to the FAITH Food Pantry in St John’s Episcopal Church in Sandy Hook.

Food also can be brought to the post offices in Newtown, Hawleyville, and Botsford post offices before 11 am on Saturday.

Newtown residents who are interested in volunteering to be a driver or a food separator should call the social services office at 270-4330. The office is open Monday through Friday from 9 am to 4:30 pm.
