Please Pay Respect and Tribute

During Teacher Appreciation Week

To the Editor:

The Reed PTA would like to focus attention on the outstanding contribution teachers make to us individually and as a community. Giving teachers the status and recognition they deserve as professionals is a wonderful way to show our appreciation for their contribution to our children’s education. We must recognize exceptional teachers and that there is a great deal of good work being done at Reed Intermediate School and all our Newtown Schools.

A strong, effective system of free public school education for all children and youth is essential to our democratic system of government. Considerable progress has been made in the social, technological, and scientific fields due to our system of free and universal public education. Much of this progress can be attributed to the qualified and dedicated teachers entrusted with the educational development of our children. Teachers should be accorded high public esteem, reflecting the value the community places on public education.

It is important that teachers be recognized for this dedication and commitment to educating their students. Please join me and pay tribute to our Reed Intermediate School Teachers and all our teachers in Newtown by sending a note to your child’s teacher the week of May 2–8 and let them know how much you appreciate their dedication to your child’s education.

With sincere and utmost respect to the teaching profession,

Jackie Himmelfarb
