Orienteering At Osbornedale
Orienteering At Osbornedale
DERBY â Western Connecticut Orienteering Club will host a meet on Saturday, May 8, at Osbornedale State Park on Chatfield Street. Registration and starts will run from 10 am to noon. All are welcome. Instruction and compasses will be available.
Members of Western Connecticut Orienteering Club will teach the basics of woodland navigation, compass and map reading, and orienteering. A hike with an orienteering map will start at 10:15 to highlight the basics of how to find oneâs way in the woods, the features of the map, and the skills for completing an orienteering course.
Orienteering is the same as reading a road map but the features of navigation are things of nature rather than highway signs. Participants can wander along the trails or through the woods; find interesting old ruins, tranquil waterfalls, and scenic overlooks, while knowing where they are and how to return to their car.
Donna Flugel and Bob Auer will be setting up the May 8 courses. They will have beginner and intermediate courses available.
Cost is $6 per person. Call 860-658-7963 or send email to Ms Fluegel, DonnaBF@aol.com, for additional information.
