NHS Lists Scholarships

The Career Center publicizes all scholarships of which it is notified. A few of the scholarships, typically national ones, request that money be enclosed with the application. The Career Center believes that students should not have to pay to apply for scholarships. If a student chooses to apply for a scholarship that charges a fee, however, the Career Center strongly advises that he or she first check its authenticity through the FTC Consumer Response Center, www.ftc.gov, 877-FTC-HELP; the National Fraud Information Center, www.fraud.org, 800-876-7060; or the Better Business Bureau, www.bbg.org or 703-276-0100.

Delta Kappa Gamma Society International — A $300 book grant will be awarded to a senior graduating from a Danbury area high school who wishes to pursue a career in the field of education. Applications are available in the Career Center. Deadline is May 15.

Quota International of Candlewood Valley — Two scholarships in the amount of $2,000 and $1,000 will be awarded to high school seniors, college students, or graduate students from the greater Danbury area. The student must be accepted in a college program such as speech/language pathology, teacher of the deaf, or other related field, or be a student who is deaf or hard of hearing. Applications are available in the Career Center. Deadline is June 25.

Newtown Junior Women’s Club Scholarship — A $500 scholarship given in the name of Jane Syme, a special education teacher who was a NJWC member. Applicants must be seniors at Newtown High School who are continuing their education goals in an accredited program. The award will be made to either a student who has received special education assistance or is planning a career in special education. Applicants are required to submit completed applications to the Career Center by May 6.
