Garner Inmate Assaults Cellmate
 State police report that Garner Correctional Institution inmate Herminio Sotomayor, 32, allegedly beat cellmate John Martin, 45, with his fists and with an electrical power adapter plug in the high security prison on Nunnawauk Road midday on April 23.
Martin received minor injuries in the incident and was transported by ambulance to the University of Connecticut Medical Center hospital in Farmington, state police said.
State police charged Sotomayor with third degree assault. He was scheduled to be arraigned on the charge April 26 in Danbury Superior Court.
Sotomayor, who was sentenced in 1999, is serving a 50-year prison sentence on a murder conviction, according to state Department of Correction (DOC). Martin, who was sentenced in 1980, is serving a life prison sentence on a murder conviction, according to DOC.
