DANBURY — A Newtown resident is among the local authors invited to participate in appearances at the recently opened Barnes & Noble in Danbury Mall.
Katherine Williams will be doing an in-person event at the new store, at 7 Backus Avenue (next to Dick’s Sporting Goods), on Saturday, May 6, at noon.
Williams is the author of The Glovemaker’s War, a tale of three generations of women launched when one courageous woman decides to join the Special Operations Executive during World War II. Kirkus Reviews calls it “a sweet tale of love in wartime.”
An avid reader, Williams started writing short stories five years ago. Her fascination for WWII history, particularly the role of women in the Resistance, led her to write The Glovemaker’s War, her first full-length novel. It was published in May 2022 by Atmosphere Press.
Williams has donated two copies of the book to C.H. Booth Library.
Copies can also be purchased at Queen Street Gifts & Treats, 6 Queen Street; and The Hickory Stick Bookshop in Washington Depot. The Glovemaker’s War is also available through Barnes & Noble and Amazon’s websites. The paperback sells for $15.
A longtime resident of Newtown, Williams was born and grew up on the Wirral peninsula in Cheshire, England, before moving to London to study business with French and Spanish.
In her late thirties she moved to the United States with her two young sons. She loves to cook for family and friends, garden in her vegetable patch, and walk in the surrounding countryside with her dog Winnie.
Barnes & Noble’s new location in Danbury opened on April 12. Reservations are not needed for author programs but additional information is available by calling 203-546-3960.
