Trentacosta Elected As Bankers’ Bank Northeast Director

John F. Trentacosta, president and treasurer of Newtown Savings Bank, has been elected to the Bankers’ Bank Northeast Board of Directors, according to an announcement by Peter J. Sposito, president and CEO.

Mr Trentacosta has more than 30 years experience in the banking and financial industries. He has served the last two years as president of the Newtown Savings Bank, a $620 million mutual savings bank established in 1855, where he is responsible for its finance, operations, administration, and retail branch banking divisions. He joined Newtown Savings Bank in 1998 as senior vice president and has been its chief financial officer since 1999. Before joining Newtown Savings Bank, Mr Trentacosta was executive vice president and chief financial officer with the Bank of New Haven.

Newtown Savings Bank is one of the original 35 investor-banks of the Banker’s Bank Northeast, which opened in 1998. Mr Sposito says that Mr Trentacosta has been a strong advocate for the Bankers’ Bank concept of working with community banks as a partner to meet their correspondent needs.

“As we grow throughout the New England states, we continue to look for experienced, capable directors who understand the banking atmosphere and the communities in which they live,” says Mr Sposito. “We turned to John Trentacosta. With more than two decades of experience as an officer at community savings banks and financial organizations in Connecticut, he has an acute understanding of what is needed for community banks to grow and prosper.”

A certified public accountant and certified bank auditor, Mr Trentacosta currently serves as chairman of the Financial Institutions Committee for the Connecticut Society of CPAs. He is a former president of the Connecticut chapter of the Bank Administration Institute and was an adjunct professor of finance and accounting in the University of New Haven graduate program.

In addition to his professional associations, Mr Trentacosta is active in the community. He currently serves as treasurer and executive committee member of the Newtown Tercentennial Commission and is a former director of Habitat for Humanity of  New Haven.

Mr Trentacosta holds a BSBA in economics from Manhattan College (Riverdale, N.Y.) and an MBA from Iona College (New Rochelle, N.Y.). A native of New York City, he recently moved to Sandy Hook, from his home in Orange. He resides there with his wife, Linda, and their two sons, John Jr and Brian.

The Bankers’ Bank Northeast, based in Glastonbury, serves more than 140 community banks throughout New England and New York. It is a state-chartered institution that is FDIC insured and a member of the Federal Reserve System and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston. Nationally, there are 20 bankers’ banks that work with more than 6,000 community banks in 48 states.
