The After-Prom Party Is Back
The After-Prom Party Is Back
To the Editor:
As the First Selectman Herb Rosenthal has proclaimed this week, âStop Underage Drinking Week,â we would like to applaud the high school PTSA for resurrecting the After-Prom Party. This postprom celebration was very popular, run by the same dedicated people year after year. Even after their children had graduated from Newtown High School that core of parents continued to volunteer. Reluctantly, when no one stepped forward to take the helm, the After Prom was discontinued. That is until an energetic group of HSPTSA parents decided this was the year to bring back the party!
Our two sons, graduates of Newtown High School, attended the After-Prom Party. What a wonderful and safe alternative to all the house parties. Ah prom night! How much sleep is there for parents whose children are driving from home to home in the middle of the night in search of the next party stop? That worry is mitigated if students attend the After Prom â a substance-free celebration that continues until dawn. This year the After Prom is being held at The Gym at Newtown, the use of which has been donated by owners Lou and Chuck Maute. There is plenty of food, great entertainment, and terrific prizes raffled off throughout the wee hours. Students can avail themselves of the various athletic facilities or simply enjoy the fun of the evening with their friends.
We encourage parents to persuade their children to attend the After-Prom Party. They will have a great time and it may be one of the better nightâs sleep you have!
Sincerely,
Jim and Roseanne Loring
