CAC Support Questioned

To the Editor:

I see in the budget this year as in years past money, $20,000, set aside for the Newtown Children’s Adventure Center. My question is why do we pay them $20,000 as well as give them the building, utilities, cleaning services, and who knows how many other things for this private school?

They have a large enrollment of paying cliental. I believe the “school” pays only $1 a year for all the above services. Where is the accountability to the taxpayers of Newtown? Do we help the other independent schools likewise in our town? Their financials seem not to be available from any town department I’ve sought information from.

Sincerely

Ross Carley

66 Currituck Road, Newtown                                      April 22, 2005

(Editor’s note: The Children’s Adventure Center is a public preschool program for children ages 3–5 and a before- and after-school program for children in kindergarten.)
