Dorothy “Dos” Charney, 79, of New Fairfield died April 24. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., January 26, 1936.

Ms Charney lived her life with unique style, humorous character, and a loving family.

Her five children, Meagahn Charney Moody of Sandy Hook, Sabrina Charney Hull of Newtown, Scot Charney of New Fairfield, Kristin Charney Ballora of Los Angeles, and Sloan Charney of Danbury; her brothers Allen Lieberman of Princeton, N.J., and Jerry Lieberman of Yorktown Heights, N.Y.; four grandsons and four granddaughters survive Ms Charney. Her loving husband, Sam Charney, predeceased her.

Ms Charney graduated from New York University.

She spent 20 years living in Redding before moving to Candlewood Lake in New Fairfield, where she lived for 35 years. Her sense of style and creativity were expressed through her beautiful home and unique lifestyle.

A realtor for more than 40 years, she helped thousands of Danbury area families find a key to a new home. She had a huge heart and helped many people in need. Prior to her career in real estate, she founded an advertising agency and Sew Easy, a very successful, ready-to-sew, women’s and children’s fashion line.

Ms Charney was a lifelong lover of art and literature, and could often be found reading into the wee hours of the morning. In addition, one of her great passions was raising Old English sheepdogs, alongside her cluster of five children.

Always keeping her door open for anyone who wanted to stop by for a cup of coffee and a chat at any time of the day or night, you could join her watching a classic Hollywood movie or help her vacuum at 2 am.

Whether you were an annual attendee of her summertime barbecue, or you occasionally helped with the maintenance of her ¼-mile-long, hairpin-turn driveway, or joined her for a spontaneous 11 pm dinner, life with Ms Charney was always an unpredictable adventure.

In her later years, she partnered with Ben, her 150-pound Newfoundland and his wee sidekick, Sadie, the Great Dane, who weighed in at 180 pounds.

Her youthful spirit and can-do approach to life made anything possible. Ms Charney was the queen of thinking outside the box, and will be missed and mourned by her family.

There will be a gathering in Dorothy's honor on Tuesday, April 28th at The Ethan Allen Inn, 21 Lake Avenue Extension, Danbury, CT. Friends and family are invited from 6 to 8 pm. Burial services will be private.

Memorial donations may be made to www.alsfoundation.org/give.
