Donald Robert Sturges, 65, died suddenly April 22, at his home in Olongapo, Philippines. He was the son of Jean Stempel of Lenox, Mass., and the late Robert Sturges, born April 4, 1950.

He was raised in Sandy Hook and was in the opening first grade class of Sandy Hook Elementary School in 1956. He graduated from Newtown High School in 1968.

He retired in 1994, after 26 years in the Navy, and then joined the Marine Sea Lift in 1995, until his death.

In addition to his mother, he leaves his wife, Amparo Sturges of the Philippines; his stepmother, Eleanor Sturges of Sandy Hook; two sons, Donald Robert, Jr, of Hampton, Va., and Daniel Albert of the Philippines; two brothers, David of Palominas, Ariz., and Peter of Woodbury; a granddaughter, Dominisse Aerith of the Philippines; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was a loving son, father, and uncle. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Services took place in the Philippines.
