Yolanda “Gramsie” George, 94, of Newtown died April 25.  She was born in Hungary, June 11, 1919. 

Mrs George escaped from communist Hungary with her two sons during the 1956 Revolution to join her husband in New York, who had escaped eight years earlier. She lived in Queens with her family for many years before moving to Newtown. 

She is remembered as a very kind and gentle person throughout her long life, and she will be greatly missed by her family.

A son, Andrew George, and his wife Johanna, of Southbury; five grandchildren and their spouses, Andrew S. and Katie George, Eric C. and Amanda George, Diana Allwein Miloro and Steve Miloro, Cathy and Jon Kost, and Steven and Laura George; a daughter-in-law, Pia George-Randall, and her husband Fred; and nine great-grandchildren survive Mrs George. Her husband, Stephen, and son, Steven, predeceased her.

Visitation and a service will take place Wednesday, April 30, from 6 to 8 pm, at Carpino Funeral Home, 750 Main Street South, Southbury.
