Alamanda Choir To Celebrate All Things Spring

SOUTH BRITAIN — Alamanda Women’s Choir of Connecticut will present “Spring Dreams: Gardens of Heaven and Earth,” a program celebrating all things spring, as its next concert.

Selections will include the premiere of David Kidwell’s The Winter is Past, as well as Casals’ Nigra Sum, Cooman’s Botany, and Bernstein’s “Somewhere” from West Side Story. Anna Jedd and Denita Yeomans are the accompanists.

The program will be offered first at the South Britain Congregational Church on Friday, May 5, at 7:30 pm.  Admission is $10 at the door.

The church is located at the intersection of Route 172 and East Flat Hill Road in South Britain, with parking available across the street from the church (on the right hand side of the road if traveling toward the church from I-84 Exit 14).

On Wednesday, May 10, at 7 pm, Alamanda will have its Watertown debut when they are joined by members of Litchfield County Children’s Choir at The Taft School. Admission for this concert is free.

The concert will be performed in the school’s Walker Hall, is a gray stone building at 50 DeForest Street (near the intersection of routes 6 and 63). Parking will be available at First Congregational Church, next to the hall.

Both venues are handicap accessible.

Alamanda, founded in 2001 by Amy F. Bernon, has 16 members representing 11 towns in our region. Recent performance venues include East Hill Woods in Southbury and North Church in Woodbury. The choir’s name was inspired by Lady Alamanda d’Estane, a 12th Century French composer and singer.
