Margaret Ellen Lewis Anderson

Margaret Ellen Lewis Anderson, 69, of Castleton, Vt., died April 23 at her residence, after a long illness. She was born July 11, 1945, in Bridgeport, and was the daughter of the late Eleanor (Ludwig) and Herbert Lewis. (Mr Lewis was a former Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire Company chief.)

She grew up in Connecticut, graduating from the Newtown High School in 1963, and then the Post Junior College in Worcester, Mass., in 1965.

Prior to relocating to Benson, Vt., in 1973, she worked in Connecticut as a secretary at the Edmond Town Hall. Then she was employed as an agent with the Riley Insurance Co. for more than 20 years. She also milked cows for the Munger Brothers Farm in Benson for many years.

While living in Sandy Hook, Ms Anderson was active in the Sandy Hook Fife & Drum Corps, and the volunteer fire company's Ladies Auxiliary.

She enjoyed making greeting cards, scrapbooks, sewing, knitting, baking, and genealogy. She loved to spend time with her family.

Survivors include her three daughters, Cindy Cassidy of Castleton, Susan Brown of Benson, and Kristen Baker of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; two brothers, David Lewis of Newtown, and Mark Lewis of Wells; two sisters, Bonnie Lewis of Murrieta, Calif., and Jacquelyn Holder of Canada; five grandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews. Donald Anderson, to whom she was married for ten years, predeceased her.

Friends may call from 6 until 8 pm, Friday, May 1, at Durfee Funeral Home, 119 North Main Street, Fair Haven, Vt.

A memorial service will take place at 2:30 pm, Saturday, May 2, at Faith Chapel, 9823 Route 4, Whitehall, N.Y.
