Glenna Jean Rees
Glenna Jean (Pinney) Rees, 85, of Sandy Hook died at home April 24, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Albany, N.Y., October 7, 1929, and was the daughter of the late Helen Pinney Gall and Earl K. Pinney.
She grew up playing softball, bowling, and skiing. She was also an avid member of the St Matthew’s Choir. She graduated from Bethlehem Central High School in Delmar, N.Y., in 1948.
Mrs Rees began her career at the telephone company in Albany, N.Y., and eventually became a supervisor. In 1966 she started working for the Red-L in Monroe, before moving on to the US Postal Service, where she worked for more than 30 years. She worked for post offices in Botsford, Sandy Hook, Newtown, and Southbury, before retiring from Hawleyville Post Office.
Her passions included teaching Sunday School, singing in the church choir, serving Meals On Wheels, and helping out wherever she could.
Family and friends remember her tireless efforts to help those in need, as she could. She was a loving “mother” to many, many people.
Mrs Rees leaves her son Mark E. Rees and daughter-in-law Paula J. Rees of Naugatuck; three grandchildren, Chris, and his wife Brandi, of Wolcott, Mark, and his wife Kelly, and Matthew, all of Naugatuck; four great-grandchildren; and her loving little dog. Her loving husband of 59 years, Edward I. Rees; and a son, Kevin, predeceased Mrs Rees.
Friends may call at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 85 Mt Pleasant Road, Newtown, Friday, May 1, from noon to 3 pm. A funeral service will be conducted at 3 pm. A private burial will take place at Bethlehem Cemetery, Delmar, N.Y., at the discretion of the family.
The Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, is in charge of arrangements.
