Blue & Gold Golf Tourney
The annual Newtown Blue and Gold Booster Club golf tournament will be held Monday, May 7, starting at 9 am, at the Newtown Country Club. The tournament is a fundraising event to support all the athletic programs at Newtown High School. Over the past five years, the tournament has raised more than $22,000 for student-athletes. The $125 fee ($30 to attend the dinner only) includes 18 holes of golf (with cart), buffet dinner, and prizes (including a $10,000 award for anyone who makes a hole-in-one on a designated hole). NHS Football Clinic
Newtown High School head football coach Ken Roberts, along with members of his staff, will conduct a youth football clinic (for players ages 8 to 15) from July 23-27. The clinic will run from 9 to 11:30 am every day will cover conditioning, fundamentals, and specialty skills. It will also include contact drills and a live scrimmage at the end. Players will be grouped by age, size and ability. Equipment rentals will be provided to those who need it. High school players are NOT eligible. Registration fee is $85 and all proceeds will benefit the Newtown Touchdown Club. Womenâs Sports Day
Womenâs Outdoors Sports Day will be held Saturday June 16, 2001 in Newtown. All women are encouraged to come out for a fun day of fishing, archery and target shooting. Pop Warner Registrations
Registrations for the 2001 Pop Warner football season will be held Saturday, May 12, from 9 am to 12 noon, at the Newtown High School cafeteria. Boys and girls ages 8 to 15 (as of July 31, 2001) are eligible to play football or cheer for the season. Copies of birth certificates must be provided at the registration. Fees are $195 for players and $175 for cheerleaders. All necessary equipment is provided. Practice starts on August 1.
Women Shoot
Women of all ages and skill levels will aim for fun as they compete in the Womenâs Shooting Sports Foundations (WSSF) 14th annual Mother Shoot on May 12 and 13 at the Blue Trail Rifle Range and Wallingford Rod & Gun Club in Wallingford. MLS Soccer Camp
The Newtown Soccer Club will once again host the MLS Soccer Camp, which will run from July 30 through August 3, and is open for players ages 5 to 12. Cost is $84 and that includes shirt and soccer ball. Brochures will be available from soccer coaches and at the Booth Library (outside lobby of childrenâs room, on bench). Ted Alex Golf Tournament
The 17th annual Ted Alex Memorial Golf Tournament, held annually to honor the memory of educator and coach Ted Alex, who died of cancer in 1984, will be held on Saturday, June 16, at the Fair View Frams Golf Course in Harwinton. Girls Lacrosse Coaches

Housy Golf Tournament
The Housatonic Valley Association Golf Tournament, presented by MacDermid to benefit the clean water and land protection, will be held on Monday, June 11, at the Country Club of Waterbury. A best One-of-Four format, the tournament offers individual and team prizes. Cost is $175 and that includes lunch, dinner, greens fees, and prizes. Lunch is at 11:45 am and dinner is at 6:30 pm. Calhoun Basketball Camp
The Jim Calhoun Basketball Camp for boys ages 9 to 17 will be held in three sessions at the University of Connecticut in Storrs. The sessions will run from July 1-5, July 8-12, and July 27-29 (this one is for high school players only). The camp hosts overnight and day campers. Campers will receive a free basketball, t-shirt, meals and top-flight instruction from high school and college coaches â as well as the UConn coaching staff. Summer Hoop â For Women
Applications are now being accepted for the New Haven Parks and Recreation Departmentâs summer basketball leagues for College Women and High School Girls. Both leagues are sanctioned by the NCAA. Games will be played at the Ralph Walker Rink at Blake Field in New Haven. League play will begin on June 24 and conclude on August 11. Special Olympics â Northwest
The Northwest Regional Special Olympics games will be held Sunday, May 6, at Naugatuck High School. The Northwest Region comprises areas of Danbury, Litchfield County, and Waterbury.
