I Am is a musical setting of the suffering and resurrection of Jesus through the events of Holy Week. The work was arranged, compiled and composed by David Clydesdale. It consists of choruses and solos, all accompanied by a 20-piece professional orchestra.

It is a very emotional and spiritual choral work set in a somewhat contemporary style but very musically accessible and easy to enjoy by the average listener. It has never been performed in the Newtown area.

Approximately 85 talented singers will be participating in the concert. Some have sung the cantata before. The conductor and musical director will be Joseph J. Jacovino Jr, the director of music at St. Rose of Lima Church. Many of the singers are members of St Rose church choir, Connecticut Choral Society and Connecticut Master Chorale.

Anthems also on the program will include Lift High the Cross, With A Voice of Singing, Clap Your Hands, I Believe/Ave Maria and I’ve Just Seen Jesus.

Vocal soloists will include David Ericson, Jacqueline Gaudet, Thomas Sheehan, Grant Skinner, Ciro Franco, Christopher Caserio, Joanne Chenkus, Teresa DeCarlo, Robert Boncoddo, and Mary Gabriele. Along with the music will be various banners and slide visuals designed and executed by Debra Archer.

The concert is being dedicated to the late Mr Joseph Jacovino, father of the conductor. Mr Jacovino was a native of Waterbury, and an amateur singer, pianist and songwriter. The concert, which will begin at 7 pm, will last approximately 90 minutes. Tickets are $12 adults, and $8 children under 12. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door.

St Rose of Lima Church is on Church Hill Road in Newtown. For more information, call 364-1064.
