Two Vehicles Collide On Right Turn
Newtown Police report Robert Kick, Jr, 49, of Waterford, Me., operating a 2018 Alfa Romeo Giulia, was traveling on Church Hill Road approaching the intersection of Washington Avenue at 6:58 am April 13. Chetranie Daka, 45, of Carmel, N.Y., operating a 2009 Jeep Wrangler, was stopped at the light at the intersection of Church Hill Road and Washington Avenue. Kick moved around Daka’s vehicle on the right side, traveling over the shoulder line, and stopped at the intersection.
When the light turned green, both vehicles attempted to make a right turn, and the front passenger’s side tire of Daka’s vehicle struck the rear driver’s side of Kick’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. No damage was done to Daka’s vehicle, and Kick’s vehicle had minor tire rub and a dent.
No charges were mentioned in the report.
Unable To Stop In Time
Newtown Police report Shirley Ricart, 46, of Danbury, operating a 2008 Lexus RX 350, was traveling westbound on Swamp Road. Ardid Xhaho, 27, of Waterbury, operating a 1994 Mercedes E320, was traveling westbound on Swamp Road and stopped for the stop sign at the South Main Street intersection. Ricart was unable to stop in time, causing the front of his vehicle to strike the rear of Xhaho’s vehicle.
Both vehicles suffered minor damage. No injuries were reported.
Ricart was issued a written warning for following too closely.
Failure To Grant Right Of Way
Newtown Police report Alison Sternberg, 63, of Easton, operating a 2013 Mercedes MI350, was traveling westbound on Church Hill Road at 1:04 pm April 14. Mary Tedesco, 25, of Bethel, operating a 2006 Honda CR-V, was traveling south on Main Street. Sternberg turned left onto Main Street, and while turning, her vehicle struck Tedesco’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported.
Sternberg received a verbal warning for failure to grant right of way while making a left hand turn.
Off Curve Into Embankment
Newtown Police report Terrell Parraway, 32, of Danbury, operating a 2006 Saab 93, was traveling northbound on Berkshire Road at 10:37 pm April 14. While negotiating a left-hand curve, Parraway went straight into a brush-filled embankment at a residential property before stopping several feet into the property.
No injuries were reported.
Parraway was issued a misdemeanor summons for misuse of registration, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, and traveling too fast for conditions.
Disorderly Conduct
Newtown Police report Melissa Gardiner, 41, of Newtown, was arrested at 4:30 am April 15 for disorderly conduct. She was released on a promise to appear with a court date of April 18.
Three Car Collision
Newtown Police report Alisan Sartori, 27, of Danbury, operating a 2018 GMC Terrain, was traveling westbound on Berkshire Road at 7:40 am April 15. Sartori was traveling behind Timothy Mihalcik, 43, of Torrington, operating a 2013 Ford Transit Connect, and Danielle Rizzitelli, 23, of Seymour, operating a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze.
Rizzitelli slowed at the intersection of High Rock Road in an attempt to turn left. Mihalcik slowed for traffic, but Sartori failed to slow for traffic. The front end of Sartori’s vehicle struck the rear end of Mihalcik’s vehicle; the impact of the collision caused the front end of Mihalcik’s vehicle to strike the rear end of Rizzitelli’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Sartori’s and Mihalcik’s vehicles were towed.
Sartori was issued an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart. Mihalcik was issued a warning for operating an unregistered motor vehicle. Rizzitelli was issued a warning for failure to carry an operator’s license.
Erratic Driver
Newtown Police report that at 1:27 pm April 15, officers were dispatched to the area of Taunton Hill Road and Great Hill Road for a report of an erratic motor vehicle. Officers located the vehicle at the Holcombe Preserve property at 55 Great Hill Road. The operator of the vehicle, Stephen Thermes, 65, of Newtown, was arrested on the charge of illegal operation of a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. He was released on a promise to appear with a court date of April 26 in Danbury Superior Court.
Hit Vehicle In Intersection
Newtown Police report Lukas Wisner, 18, of Southington, operating a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta, was traveling eastbound on Huntingtown Road at 4:44 pm April 15. Orlando Febus, 25, of Bridgeport, operating a 2021 Ford Transit Connect, was traveling southbound on South Main Street. Wisner approached the intersection with South Main Street, then pulled out from Huntingtown Road to begin turning left onto South Main Street. The front end of his vehicle struck the rear passenger’s side tire area of Febus’ vehicle.
No injuries were reported.
Wisner was issued a verbal warning for failure to grant right of way at a stop sign.
Foot Slipped Off Brake
Newtown Police report Carol Troy, 72, of Seymour, operating a 2016 Honda CR-V, was stopped behind a 2015 Subaru Outback operated by Domingo Franciamore, 54, of New Milford, at the intersection of Mt Pleasant and Hawleyville Road at 3:19 pm April 18. Troy told police that her foot slipped off the brake pedal and her vehicle rolled forward and struck Franciamore’s vehicle. Both vehicles incurred minor damage.
No injuries were reported.
Troy was issued a verbal warning for following too closely.
