I-84 East Closed Following Crash
I-84 East will be closed for a few hours Monday evening, following a crash that sent one woman to the hospital.
CT State Police, Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company, Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and a paramedic all responded to I-84 East in Newtown between Exit 10 and 11 around 8:35 Monday evening following a reported two-vehicle crash.
As first responders began arriving on the scene, it was discovered that a Lexus sedan had crashed into the rear end of a tractor trailer truck. The female driver of the Lexus was seriously injured, and transported to the hospital.
The driver of the truck was checked for injuries, but did not need to go to the hospital.
Firefighters have cleared from the highway. CSP troopers are reportedly remaining on the highway to conduct an investigation, which will keep the highway closed until the complete their work. Traffic on secondary roads in Newtown quickly began building and backing up as drivers started leaving the highway and seeking alternate routes back to I-84 East.
