Sandy Hook Student Dancers Win Awards

Two young dancers who study at Dance Dimensions in Brookfield recently competed for and won titles to represent the Dance Teachers Club of New York City and The Dance Teachers Club of Connecticut during the Dance Masters of America National Dance Competition, which will take place in Orlando, Fla., in July.

Ashlyn DeLoughy, age 7, won Petite Miss Dance of CT 2008, while Kira Flynn, age 10, won Junior Miss Dance of NYC 2008. Both girls are students at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Ashlyn earned her title after performing her lyrical routine “Rainbow Connection.” She will now represent Dance Masters of America, Dance Teachers Club of Connecticut, Chapter 18 in Orlando.

Kira earned her crown following her lyrical routine “The Flower The Shattered The Stone.” She will represent Dance Masters of America, New York City Chapter 26.

“This is a great honor that these girls won this,” said Dody Flynn, the owner of Dance Dimensions (and mother of Kira; aunt to Ashlyn). The winning routines were choreographed by Ms Flynn.

In addition to Ashlyn and Kira, two other students from Dance Dimensions also won titles for the New York-Connecticut region. Jackie D’Aquila, 15, of Brookfield, won Teen Miss Dance of NYC 2008, and Shannon DePaul, also 15, from Danbury, won Teen Miss Dance of CT 2008.
