Occupation: I’m retired now, but I’m a part-time salon assistant at Ashlar, and I’m the corresponding secretary and co-chair for the entertainment committee for the Nunnawauk Meadows Residents’ Association. I’m on the state board for the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, and I belong to St Rose Parish. I keep busy.

Family: I have four married children, Margaret Reynolds in Long Island, Thomas Egan III, in Watertown, Julie Ann Zee from Quechee, Vt., and Veronica Cooper of Plymouth, Mass. All are graduates of Newtown High School.

Pets: None at the present time. My kids all have them, though, and we had dogs and cats all the time when they were growing up.

How long have you lived in Newtown? Thirty-five years-plus, moving here from Stamford when my late husband took a job at Pitney Bowes.

What do you like to do in your free time? I love to read, especially about the Civil War era of the United States. I’ve read a lot of books by John Jakes. I like the historical novels. I also like the mystery writer Mary Higgins Clark. I enjoy classic movies and I love to dance. I’m learning line dancing now.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? I’ve traveled extensively in the US attending Ancient Order of the Hibernians’ conventions. Our next convention is in New Orleans. There is so much to see in the United States. I’ve been to Ireland three times, and I want to go again. It’s a beautiful country, scenerywise, as well as the people. The people there are wonderful.

What are some changes you have seen in Newtown? The growth and the sale of Fairfield Hills — from the sale of the hospital right up to the present situation. The population has grown and traffic has increased. When we moved here, you could get up and down Church Hill Road, no problem. Now, it’s nothing but traffic.

What is the best thing about Newtown? We have a variety of businesses and that’s a good thing. We don’t have to go to Danbury for everything.

Do you have a hero? I admired my husband, Tom, very much. He was a very caring person and he was very involved in sports with the youngsters.

Do you have a personal philosophy? Be very active. Keep busy in mind and body. Live life to the fullest.

Do you have a guilty pleasure? I love to go out and eat. There are some very good restaurants in Newtown. I love the chicken con broccoli at Pizza Palace.
