Mattatuck Museum Seeking Docents

WATERBURY — The Mattatuck Museum Arts & History Center has openings for volunteer exhibit educators to lead tours for both children and adults. Also known as docents, exhibit educators share their enthusiasm for the history and art of the greater Waterbury region by leading groups through the museum’s collections, answering questions, and encouraging critical thinking and dialogue about vital issues facing the area today.

The museum will provide all training required. The only necessary qualification is the desire to help adults, children, and families learn.

In as little as two hours per week exhibit educators can ignite sparks of curiosity and witness the joy of learning. The museum is a leader in museum educational programs, receiving regional recognition and state awards. Each year over 10,000 school children visit the museum, bursting with curiosity.

For those who prefer to work with adults, the museum also has opportunities for exhibit educators to work with eager lifelong learners.  Programs are designed to be engaging, dynamic, and flexible.  Emphasis is placed on participation and small group activities.

Now is a perfect time to become part of the Mattatuck Museum’s community of education volunteers with the opening on May 10 of the new history exhibit, “Coming Home: Building Community in a Changing World.”  Built using the most advanced technology, the exhibit is educational and entertaining, opening exciting new avenues for learning.

By becoming a Mattatuck Museum exhibit educator, volunteers continually expand their knowledge, enjoy the company of other like-minded volunteers, and help museum visitors, both young and old, to experience the joy of learning.

For information on how to become a museum exhibit educator, contact Karen Pierce at 203-753-0381 extension 13 or Kpierce@MattatuckMuseum.org.
