Lyme Specialist Speaking
At WestConn
Danbury â âLyme Disease and the Problems Associated with its Diagnosis and Treatmentâ is the topic of a Wednesday, April 30, seminar being co-sponsored by the Brookfield, Danbury Sunrise, Danbury Noon, Ridgefield and Newtown Rotary Clubs in conjunction with the Newtown and Ridgefield Lyme Disease Task Forces.
This free Lyme awareness event will be held at the Westside Campus Student Center at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury from 6 to 9 pm. Registration and exhibits open at 6 pm with the speakers starting at 7. Featured speakers include Dr Richard I. Horowitz, vice president of the International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society (ILADS) and Pat Smith, president of the national Lyme Disease Association.
Dr Horowitz is a diplomate, American Board of Internal Medicine, with a practice in Hyde Park, N.Y. He served as assistant director of medicine at Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., for seven years and founded the Hudson Valley Healing Arts Center, which includes comprehensive treatment for Lyme and related tick-borne diseases.
Dr Horowitz lectures frequently on late-stage illness and the co-infections such as babesiosis and anaplasmosis (formerly ehrlichiosis) that often complicate diagnosis and treatment.
Joining Dr Horowitz will be Pat Smith, president of the Lyme Disease Association (LDA). Ms Smith will present a national perspective on the rapidly growing medical problem of tick-borne infections.
The eveningâs honored guest will be State Representative Jason Bartlett (D-Bethel/Danbury/Redding). Exhibitors include a wide array of specialists and services focusing on Lyme disease prevention and patient support.
