High Honors

For Pack 570

To the Editor:

On March 29th, 2008, St. Rose of Lima Pack 570 held it’s annual Blue and Gold Banquet. Cubmaster Jeff DePinto, Sr., served as master of ceremonies and presented the scouts with numerous awards.  Mr Ed Wolf, Sr., serves as Unit Commissioner of Pack 570.

The opening ceremony was presented by Bear Den 2 and was followed with a delicious dinner.  The program included a Cub Scout Talent Show that allowed Jack Beal, Jesse Cabral, Michael Cabral, Daniel Colucci, Evan Doering, Patrick Doherty, Zachary Hamar, John Paul Locke, Nicolas Lombardo, Robert Lombardo, Jordan Marussich, Timothy Moore, William Pindell and Matthew Pindell to share their special talents with a lively crowd of 185 people.  The show included musicians, magicians, and numerous skits that were enjoyed by all.

Another highlight of the afternoon was the presentation of the prestigious Gold Medallion Award.   Mr Arthur Keegan of Woonsocket, Rhode Island and chairman of the National Catholic Committee on Scouting (NCCS) in Region One, made the presentation.  Pack 570 has won the Gold Medallion Award twice in a row, as it was recognized in 2006 and 2007.  Only one pack in each of the 14 regions in the United States receives this award annually.  Region One includes Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut.

The Gold Medallion Award recognizes outstanding Catholic units in each of the 14 Episcopal regions.  It promotes the NCCS initiative to increase its units, youth members and adult volunteers.  Medallion recipients epitomize those units that excel in providing youth with quality programs including religious activities, religious emblems participation, outdoor activities, and special events that encompass the religious, vocational and educational aspects of Scouting under Catholic auspices.

Congratulations to the scouts for their outstanding talent show and to Pack 570 for achieving the Gold Medallion Award.  Also, congratulations to the adult leaders who have worked so hard to maintain such a high quality program for their sons as Cub Scouts in Pack 570.

Respectively submitted,

Thomas M. Maxwell II

Assistant District Commissioner

14 Stonewall Ridge Road, Newtown                             April 22, 2008
