Flanders To Offer Course

On Writing About Nature

WOODBURY — “Writing About Nature,” a workshop-style course will be offered beginning Thursday, May 1, at Flanders Nature Center & Land Trust in Woodbury. It will run for five Thursdays from 7 to 9:30 pm.

The program will be held in Flanders Welcome Center, located on Church Hill Road at the intersection of Flanders Road.

Virginia Small, an award-winning journalist and poet, will teach the course. Ms Small’s book entitled Great Gardens of the Berkshires will be published by Down East Books this fall. She has received awards for writing from the Garden Writers Association, the Connecticut Poetry Society, and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts.

Participants will delve into their relationship with the natural world and learn about developing or refining a writing voice in several genres. Exercises will heighten awareness and spark creativity, and reading materials will demonstrate successful techniques. Some exercises will include exploring Flanders’s 200-acre campus.

The course is open to writers at all levels. The fee is $110 for Flanders members and $125 for nonmembers.

Call 263-3711 extension 10 to enroll.
