Eagle Scout Was Avid Outdoorsman

Andrew Philip Cruz, 23, beloved son of Philip J. and Sandra (Boughton) Cruz of Newtown, died April 20 in Danbury Hospital with his family at his side, after along battle with cancer.

Andrew was born in New Milford on December 28, 1984. He attended Hawley and Newtown Middle Schools and was a graduate of Newtown High School, Class of 2003. He was a senior at Western Connecticut State University in the Justice, Law and Administration school. He was Sgt-At-Arms for the Western Connecticut State University Chapter of Zeta Beta Tau Fraternity. Andrew received the Frank Muska Award for outstanding contributions made to the fraternity. He was employed by Bethel Handyman Hardware for the last six years while attending school.

Andrew was an Eagle Scout with Troop 70 in Newtown. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed camping, climbing, and driving his 4-wheel all-terrain vehicles.

In addition to his parents, Andrew is survived by his sister, Captain Amanda Leigh Rosa and her husband, Captain Michael Rosa, both serving in the US Army, stationed in Seoul, South Korea, and their daughter, Lilly Ann Rosa; his paternal grandmother, Liuntina Cruz of Danbury; his maternal grandparents, Alden and Mildred Boughton of Danbury; his great-aunt, Angelina Coelho of Danbury; his aunts and uncles, Brenda and James Miller of Newtown, Sandra and Robert Smith of Newtown, and Michael and Margaret Boughton of Virginia; and several cousins.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a memorial service Saturday, April 26, at 11:30 am in Trinity Episcopal Church, 36 Main Street, Newtown, with Rev Kathleen Adams- Shepherd, Rector, officiating. Interment will follow in Trinity Church Memorial Garden.

In lieu flowers, contributions may be made to Newtown Middle School, Cruz’N for a Cure, Relay For Life Team (to be held in Newtown, June 7and 8), c/o Newtown Middle School, 11 Queen Street, Newtown CT 06470

Arrangements are in care of the Honan Funeral Home, Newtown.
