The Second Company Governorâs Horse Guard will hold its annual Judged Pleasure Ride on Saturday, May 10, on the grounds at Fairfield Hills, with start times between 9 am and 12 noon. Fee is $45 per rider and includes lunch.
Riders will be timed on the trail ride and awarded points for each obstacle successfully completed.  Ribbons will be awarded for those finishing in the first through eighth places. The event is open to all horse owners. Riders will enjoy one of the most scenic trails in the state, with a total distance of eight to nine miles.
âSome new and very different types of fun obstacles will be set up both in our riding ring and fields,â said Second Lieutenant Robert Dahm. âThe trails and obstacle course will be challenging to both horse and rider and lotâs of fun as well.â
Proof of current Coggins and Rabies vaccinations must be shown. For further information and reservations call 203-426-9046.
The Second Company Governorâs Horse Guard is an all-volunteer state militia unit originally chartered in 1808, and is one of the oldest Cavalry Units in continuous service in the U.S. A non-profit organization, the Horse Guard relies mostly on itâs own fund raising efforts, in order to continue to exist.
The Horse Guard has taken on additional responsibilities this year providing a mounted Search and Rescue team as well as performing regular mounted patrols in conjunction with the CT Horse Council, in state forests and parks beginning this summer. The Horse Guard continues to perform in special events and parades throughout the state.
