SOUTHBURY - More than 300 athletes from across New England competed at the World Tang Soo Do Association Region 9 tournament held recently at Pomperaug High School in Southbury. Nearly 20 members of Porco's Karate Academy in Sandy Hook attended.

SOUTHBURY – More than 300 athletes from across New England competed at the World Tang Soo Do Association Region 9 tournament held recently at Pomperaug High School in Southbury. Nearly 20 members of Porco’s Karate Academy in Sandy Hook attended.

Grandmaster Jae C. Shin was present.

For the second year in a row, Karin Roumanis of Porco’s Karate Academy was presented with the Regional Cup for being the highest finisher in a black belt division (Senior Female). Roumanis was first in sparring, second in forms and third in weapons.

Other local competitors included Josh Volpe, Josh Miles, Sally Toms (first in forms, third in sparring), Marcus Toms, Lauren D’Amico (first in forms, first in sparring, second in weapons), Amelia Schwartz (second in sparring and third in forms and weapons), Sean Fahey, Jason Lamonte (third in forms), Nancy Gilbert (third in forms and second in sparring and weapons), Anthony Altieri (third in weapons), Crystal Knapp (second in weapons, third in sparring), Lisa Doersch (third in forms and sparring), Eric Ralston (second in sparring and third in forms), Aria Brownell, Alan Schwartz (second in sparring and third in forms), Joseph Pisacreta and Zoe Rabinowitz (third in forms).
