Pencils For Peace

To the Editor:

On behalf of our class we would like to thank the Newtown community for their kindness and generosity towards our class service project, Pencils for Peace. Not only have we reached our goal but we have exceeded it. With Mr Droppo’s donation (owner of Curtis Packaging), we have come to a total of 24,562 pencils. We have gone to many people and most have said “sorry no,” but when we turned to our community we got more help than we ever expected. It is very clear that Newtown is capable of great things (and this again has shown so).

You may remember that a man named Padraig Power started this humanitarian effort in Ireland. As soon as we heard about him we started trying to help his cause to aid the people of Kosovo. We are especially interested in helping the children of Kosovo though. Right from the beginning you were so supportive, and you have continued this all the way. Not many communities are so responsive and can attain such high thing, but when someone is in need you always seem to be right there along helping.

Thank you again for supporting us with your kindness and love throughout this campaign and for helping us make a difference in the world.

With much gratitude,

Ms King’s Fifth Grade Class
