Keep Cell Towers OutOf Neighborhoods
Keep Cell Towers Out
Of Neighborhoods
To the Editor:
On Thursday, May 1, Newtown residents will have a crucial opportunity to say No to cell towers in our residential neighborhoods. The Siting Council will conduct a public hearing on the controversial Omnipoint/T-Mobile application to build a 150-foot cell tower on Walnut Tree Hill Road, in Newtownâs most densely populated residential neighborhood.
The good news is that due to the strong opposition from the citizens of Newtown and our local governmentâs resultant protests, Omnipoint has been pressured to consider two industrial sites on Edmond Road. The bad news is that what appears to normal thinkers as the logical siting of this tower may not be a slam-dunk. As we have all witnessed in recent struggles to preserve our community, the power of unified voices is needed to win these battles.
We urge you to show your support by attending the public hearing on May 1, at 7 pm, at Edmond Town Hall. Your voice will count in urging the Siting Council to keep Newtownâs inevitable future cell towers where they belong ââ on industrial sites. Tell the Siting Council that our neighborhoods belong to us, not to the mercenary interests of telecom carriers.
Sincerely,
Julia Nable
