Sandy Hook Crash

A three-vehicle accident took place on westbound Route 34 at about 11:26 am April 22, police said.

Motorist John Kustra, 41, of Branford, who was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Astrovan, stopped for a stopped vehicle, which was waiting to make a left turn onto High Rock Road, police report. Motorist John Eldrich, 46, of Hamden, who was driving a 2001 Volvo V-70 station wagon, then stopped behind the Chevrolet.

Motorist Richard Mileto, 46, of Danbury, who was driving a 1994 Toyota Corolla, then braked heavily on the wet roadway, but skidded, and crashed into the rear end of the Volvo, pushing the Volvo into the rear end of the Chevrolet, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Mileto an infraction ticket for following too closely.

BMW Into Pole

Motorist Gary Lyon, 46, of Trumbull, who was driving a 1992 BMW 325-ES coupe northward on South Main Street near 168 South Main Street at about 6:40 pm April 23, told police that he fell asleep at the wheel, after which the auto crossed the road’s centerline, went off the southbound road shoulder, and struck a utility pole.

Police said Lyon was uninjured. Police issued Lyon a written warning for failure to drive to the right.

Larceny Charge

Police report they were assisting disabled motorist John J. Jacewicz, 53, of Waterbury on Mile Hill Road at about 10:30 am April 23, when they learned that the U-Haul box truck that Jacewicz was driving was reported as stolen from Naugatuck. Police charged Jacewicz with first degree larceny, after which they released him on a promise to appear May 14 in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charge.

Main Street DUI

Police said motorist Alan B. Dean, 41, of 14 Old Hawleyville Road was driving a station wagon northward on Main Street, near Edmond Town Hall, at about 10:20 pm April 23, when the vehicle drifted to the right and struck an unoccupied station wagon that was parked along the right side of the road.

Police said Dean was not injured in the accident. Following an investigation, police charged Dean with driving under the influence and making a restricted turn. Police released Dean on a $250 bond for a May 8 appearance in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charges.
