Capt Howard A. Bronson

Capt Howard A. Bronson, 81, of Mystic, died peacefully April 13 at The Westerly Hospital in Westerly, R.I.

He is survived by his partner of 22 years, Marcia A. Drum of Mystic, and his three children, Michele Bronson-Baudisch of Newtown, William W. Bronson of Milford, and Colin A. Bronson of Fairfield, and by four grandchildren, Emily and Charles Bronson-Baudisch of Newtown, and Jake and Mitchell Bronson of Milford.

Born in Waterbury on December 14, 1921, he was the son of the late Howard A. Bronson and Margaret (Wallace) Bronson Holtzhauser.

He was a 1942 graduate of the US Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, N.Y. He was a World War II Navy veteran serving in all theaters.

Capt Bronson had a distinguished career as a ship’s captain throughout the world. He had worked for Texaco and retired in 1987 from Stolt-Nielsen in Greenwich. He was a member of Mystic Seaport, and a founding member of the Council of American Master Mariners.

Funeral services will be on Long Island Sound at a later date.
