$50,000 Grant Expected For Treadwell Park
The State Bond Commission is expected to act Friday on a $50,000 grant that will help pay for drainage and irrigation work and reconstruction of ball fields at Treadwell Park in Newtown, state Representative Julia B. Wasserman, R-106th District, announced this week.
âThis grant is an important one for Newtown. It will restore the ball fields and help keep them in good condition for years to come,â Rep Wasserman said. âThe ball fields had deteriorated badly because of poor drainage and irrigation. The improvements this grant will help fund will make the fields safer and more attractive for everyone who uses them.â
âWhen the drainage and reconstruction work is completed, Treadwell Parkâs ball fields will be better than ever. This grant is an investment in Newtownâs future that will benefit children and families for many, many years. Iâd like to thank Governor Rowland and the Bond Commission for considering this funding. It shows the stateâs continued commitment to helping our communities provide quality recreational facilities,â Rep Wasserman said.
Treadwell Park, which is on Philo Curtis Road in the Sandy Hook section of town, has several ball fields as well as tennis courts, a swimming pool, trails, and a picnic area. The drainage, irrigation, and reconstruction work is expected to get underway after July 1.
