Newtown High School’s boys’ tennis team defeated host Joel Barlow of Redding 5-2 on April 15, then toppled visiting Brookfield 7-0 the next day. Newtown edged Barlow, 4-3 in a rematch, on April 21.

On the golf course, the first-year varsity girls’ squad has won three matches to begin the campaign. The Nighthawks won twice this week, topping Weston and Stratford. The NHS boys’ golfers, following a loss to Masuk of Monroe, on April 15, have won two in a row heading into a big match with Pomperaug of Southbury, set for April 27.

Golfers Win

The girls’ golf team shot a 204 and visiting Weston shot a 241 at Rock Ridge Country Club, on April 21 For the Hawks, Sarah Houle fired a 43, Molly Wilson shot a 45, Liz Weisgerber had a 53, and Allie Indelicato a 63.

The Hawks visited Stratford on April 23 and shot a 211 to easily defeat Stratford, which shot a 317. Newtown will visit Masuk of Monroe on April 27. The Hawks return home to face Joel Barlow of Redding on April 29. Matches begin at 3 pm.

Newtown High’s boys’ squad bounced back from a loss to host Masuk on April 15, during which Newtown shot a 179 and the Panthers shot a 168, with a win at Immaculate of Danbury, on April 21. The Hawks shot a 168 and Immaculate shot a 186.

The boys, following their second straight win, 154-194 triumph over visiting Notre Dame-Fairfield, on April 22, will host Pomperaug of Southbury at 3 pm on April 27, in a battle of last season’s top two South-West Conference teams (the Panthers edged the Nighthawks for first place in the SWC).
