Town Players Season Opener-'Ideal Husband' Coming To The Little Theatre
Town Players Season Openerâ
âIdeal Husbandâ Coming To The Little Theatre
Town Playersâ 66th season will commence with performances of the classic play by Oscar Wilde, An Ideal Husband, which tells the story of how ambition and determination can allow one man to climb to great heights only to have his vulnerability threatened when a misdeed from his past resurfaces.
The high morals and code of honesty demanded by Gertrude, the wife of Sir Robert Chiltern, the playâs protagonist, almost cause Sir Robert to fall from the pedestal upon which his wife has placed him. Thanks to the cleverness and wit of a close friend, Lord Gording, in whom Sir Robert has confided, the situation is eventually reversed.
Becky Rodia and Suzanne Kinnear, both of whom appeared in the Newtown theaterâs past productions of Sylvia and Pygmalion, return to the stage of The Little Theatre for the season-opening production. Christopher Bird, Sante Britt (Town Playersâ Run for Your Wife), William Cody, Patricia Dunna-Frame, Marianne OâShaughnessy, Rob Pawlikowsky (a veteran of numerous Town Players productions), Lori Peck (last seen in Pygmalion), Ethyle Power, Charles Schonfeld and Timothy Zeno (Run for Your Wife) round out the cast.
In continuing a Town Players tradition, Evelyne M. Thomas will once again direct the season-opener. Producer is Suzanne Kinnear, lighting design is by Rob Pawlikowski, sound effects by Mary Poile, and the stage set has been constructed around a design by Dan Paynter.
The witty and clever comedy will be presented at The Little Theatre, on Orchard Hill Road in Newtown, May 4 to May 26. Performances are Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 pm. There will be a matinee on Sunday, May 20, at 2 pm. Tickets for all shows are $10.
