Half Day A Happenin’

By Allison Jagoe, Marissa Bobkowski, Mia Malin

What does half mean? Mrs Strobel, a second grade teacher, helps children be aware of this fraction half by celebrating the 91st day, the middle day of the year. Mrs Strobel said, “Why do we spend so much time celebrating the 100th day when every day is special? However, since we can’t have a party every day we should at least celebrate the half day of school.” Half day started seven years ago for Mrs Strobel. However, Mrs Gorham, a former first grade teacher, gave Mrs Strobel the idea before she retired.

During half day, the students dressed up. They wore some very interesting clothing; half of one shirt and half of another sewn on, half of one pant and half of another or one sneaker and one dress shoe. The girls sometimes wore half of their hair up and half down and boys could spike half their heads. Some students came in with half of their face painted. Those were just some of the marvelous half things they used.

Some half activities they had that day were half morning work, half of a snack, and half of one lunch.

Some students had very interesting things to say about half day. Jillian Jagoe said, “I like what Mrs Strobel was wearing. She was half boy and half girl.” Melanie Scott said, “I like the half homework we had so there was more time to play.” Now everybody remembers half!

The CD For New Families

At Middle Gate

By Chris Parker

With all the new families at Middle Gate, it is getting hard to explain all the great things the school has to offer. Harriet Morgan and Emily Groves, students at MG, agreed to help Mrs McGough, the media specialist, make a CD. The CD will be distributed to new families at Middle Gate. The CD includes interviews with important people at the school like Nurse Nancy, our nurse, Mrs Sellner, lead teacher, Mrs Fagan, science teacher, and Mrs Gallo, principal. The students use different types of technology like digital cameras, camcorders, and computers. Harriet and Emily have made their interviews by themselves and have just gotten help from Mrs McGough when they were putting it on the computer. The footage is great! They are doing a great job.

SSS – Show School Spirit

By Allison Jagoe

It’s on the second Friday of each month. It is done to help show school spirit. It was one of Mrs Schmidt’s brilliant ideas. It’s fun and it’s theme day at Middle Gate School! Mrs Sellner and Mrs McGough brain stormed themes that would be easy to depict. They came up with animals, people, places, nature, and fictional characters. These will be some of the future themes. The whole school needs to wear a shirt or some article of clothing with a picture having to do with the theme on it. We at Middle Gate have a lot of school spirit!

Martin Luther King, Jr

By Lauren Busser And Joanna Barry

In honor of Dr Martin Luther King, Jr, the fourth graders did a special project. The teachers tried to teach the students Dr King’s words and what he fought for.

The students chose a word that reflected the words of Martin Luther King and they defined and illustrated that word.

The quality of the projects was excellent. No two were alike. Most of the projects were colorful and detailed. Some students decided to illustrate and define words like love, peace, and brotherhood.

They all were creative and it seemed like every student worked hard on their projects.
