Thanks to the generous gifts from the Friends of the Library there is a growing collection of new CDs and DVDs at the library. Weâre getting some great new titles that are bound to please a wide range of listeners and viewers.
Book Donations: Spring is officially here, time to clean out cellars and attics and bring those unwanted books to the library. Volunteers are hard at work organizing for our Labor Day Book Sale.
Exhibits
Flagpole Photographers Art Show: On Saturday, April 28, and Sunday, April 29, the Flagpole Photographers will be exhibiting membersâ photographs in the meeting room of the library during regular library hours. Donât miss this lovely exhibit. The public is invited to come and vote for the peopleâs choice award. Â
Ten Years of Fun with Photography: Over 80 photographs taken by Mary Mitchell and Al Goodrich will be on display at the library for the month of April. The exhibit includes photos from around the world as well as our own Main Street.
The SCAN Art Show will be coming to the library May 2 through May 14. More details will be available soon.
Childrenâs Programs
Origami Workshop: Learn how to make animals using this ancient paper folding technique, Saturday, May 5, from 11 am to 12 pm. Recommended for ages 6 and older. Space is limited to 15. Pre-registration is required. Sign up sheet is available in the childrenâs department. There is no fee for this program.
Adult Programs
Daytime Book Group: For all of you unable to make the evening book discussion please consider joining us at the library for a new daytime group. On May 14 at 1 pm the group will be discussing Ahabâs Wife by Sena Jeter Naslund. The group will also be putting together a list of books to read in future months, so if you have a recommendation weâd love your input.
Art at the Library: Michael Collins of the Beaux Arts Gallery will give a talk and slide show on the works and development of artist and dancer Stella Bloch on Tuesday, May 15, at 7 pm in the meeting room. Beautiful examples of Ms Blochâs art are on permanent display throughout the library. Come learn about this extraordinary woman and her art, which was influenced by Harlem Jazz, Duncan dance, and pictorial photography!
Evening Book Group: On Thursday, May 17, the evening book group will discuss Where the Heart Is by Billie Letts. The group will meet at 7:30 pm in the Special Collections room on the third floor. New members are always welcome. We are putting together a list of books to read for next year, and weâd love your input as to what we should read next.
Poetry at the Library: Charles Rafferty of Newtown will give a poetry reading on Wednesday, May 23, at 7 pm in the meeting room of the library. A dessert reception will follow.
