Tore N. Anderson

Tore N. Anderson, 83, of High Ridge Road, Brookfield, died unexpectedly April 14 in Danbury Hospital. Mr Anderson was the husband of the late Anne (Keda) Anderson. He was born in Vasteras, Sweden, on May 1, 1920, a son of the late Nels and Hulda Charlotta Anderson. His family brought him to America at the age of 3½ and he was raised in Kearney, N.J.

Mr Anderson was valedictorian of Kearney High School and studied electrical engineering at the Cooper Union, New York City. Tore served in the Army Crops of Engineers in the Philippines beginning in 1943.

A resident of Brookfield for 35 years, he was an Elder of the Christ the King Lutheran Church in Newtown, and was also a member of the Cedar Paint Yacht Club in Westport and the Scandinavian Society.

During his distinguished career as an electrical engineer, he specialized in microwave antennas. He was awarded numerous US patents and worked most notably for Airtron, a Division of Litton Industries, and Antennas For Communications, of which he remained an employee to the present time.

Mr Anderson represented the United States in the field of Waveguide Standards at the International Electrotechnical Commission. Waveguides tested in his own basement are currently circling Mars on the Mars Global Surveyor. He was active for many years in the Institute for Electronics and Electrical Engineering (IEEE).

In 2003, Mr Anderson wrote an article for the American Historical Collection titled “Salvaging a Silver Treasure” about his diving for Philippine Pesos off Coriegidor in 1945.

Mr Anderson is survived by a son, Kenneth Anderson of Arlington, Mass.; three daughters, Joyce Anderson of London, Karen Abel of Eclectic, Ala., and Lois Anderson of New York City; two granddaughters, Darya and Elissa Huber-Anderson of Arlington, Mass., the daughters of Kenneth Anderson and Kathleen Huber; and one sister, Britta Mead of Manasquan, N.J.

Funeral services were held April 18 in Christ The King Lutheran Church, 85 Mount Pleasant Road, Newtown.
