Flossie Love Zellner Bassett, 100, of Floral City, Fla., died peacefully at home April 16, with her family nearby. A native of Floral City and one of nine children, she was born on December 1, 1903, to the late Junius Octavius Love and his wife, Daisy Hampton Love.
Survivors include two sons, H.D. Bassett III and his wife Lynn of Newtown, and James Earl Zellner and his wife Mary of Green Valley, Ariz.; one sister, Lillian Carghill of Montgomery, Ala., and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Thomas Earl Zellner, and H.D. Bassett.
She was a lifetime resident of Floral City and the great-granddaughter of its founder, Jean Prospier Formy-Duval. As a child, she used to hunt and fish on Duval Island.
In later years, she worked in real estate business, being the first female realtor in Citrus County. She loved to travel but her favorite place was home. She was active in her community being a charter member of the Citrus County Historical Society in 1963 and was appointed by the governor to the Citrus County Historical Commission.
Mrs Bassett also served eight years on the school board and was one of the founders of the Citrus County Art League, Floral City Garden Club, and Floral City Womanâs Club. The organizers of the Floral City Heritage Days and the Citrus County Commission issued a proclamation in 2002 honoring her with the âFlossie Bassett Day.â Her favorite hobbies included rocking in her rocking chair and painting, but her true love was playing bridge.
Private cremation services were requested. Memorials in Mrs Bassettâs memory are being received by the Citrus County Historical Society.
