To The Editor:

I have worked in the Registrar of Voters office since 1996. In 2001, I became a Registrar. Our office is non biased so you should not be able to tell which party we are in the office. We serve all voters. I am the Democratic Registrar. I am stating this because I am being attacked for doing my job.

Erica Canfield is my counterpart, the Republican Registrar, all things we do in the office are agreed upon. We both are required to be certified through the state and to maintain education hours annually. Part of our job is to report election irregularities to Election Enforcement. Failure to do so could cost us our certification which is a requirement of our job.

Our office has won the Democracy cup twice for highest turnout during Presidential Elections. We go out of our way to encourage voter participation. My Facebook page is public so people can be reminded about voting. We started an office Facebook page to keep residents engaged. We attend group meetings to speak about voting. We do voter sessions at the High School.

When I see someone say they are new to town I welcome them and give them the information so they can register. We make sure those signs are out asap. We follow the laws. We both have our beliefs but know everyone has a right to vote their conscience. We just want them to vote.

The PTA broke so many laws last year and we received so many complaints from residents we had no choice but to send the complaint to Election Enforcement. This was signed by both Registrars. I personally sent a letter to the Legislative Council last year asking to have the sign ordinance clarified. I spoke at their meeting and they decided not to review the ordinance.

Both Erica and I went to school in Newtown. My daughter has been an elementary school teacher for over twenty years. We are not against education. We are against unfair and illegal elections.

We encourage every eligible voter to turn out at every vote.
