Police Arrest NHS Student on Sexting Charge
On Friday, April 22, police arrested a male Newtown High School student, charging him with three counts of possessing or transmitting child pornography by a minor, police said.
The charge is a Class A misdemeanor.
NHS School Resource Officer Liam Seabrook made the arrest following a two-month investigation into a "sexting" complaint received by police in late February, according to police.
A female high school student lodged the complaint.
Following their investigation, police received a warrant from Danbury Juvenile Court for the male youth's arrest.
The youth received an appearance date on the charges in Danbury Juvenile Court and was released into the custody of his parents, police said.
Police did not disclose the defendant's identity because he is under 18.
Police said the case is not related to a recent case in which 25 NHS students were involved in sexting activity. That case resulted in five juvenile arrests and 20 referrals to a community review board.
