Frances Henson Ballard, 92, a resident of Emeritus at Woodbridge, formerly of Newtown, and Asheville, N.C., died April 19. She was born October 26, 1922.

Four children, Patti Winters of Newtown, Nancy Ballard of Massachusetts, Susan Ballard-Hirsch of Maryland, and Kathy Ballard-Drake of Colorado; and five grandchildren, Cody Ballard,  Ryan Hirsch, Sean Hirsch, Morgan Winters, and Abbi Winters, survive Mrs Ballard. A son, Bob Ballard, predeceased her.

She was a graduate of Sophie Newcomb College (part of Tulane University), and in addition to raising her family, worked for many years as a biochemist for Dow Corning, Boston University, Carter Wallace, and Novartis/Sandoz.

She was also a devoted member and volunteer in her local church communities in Belle Mead, N.J., Sparta, N.J., Asheville, and Newtown.

Her generosity of spirit and positive approach to life will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and church communities.

A memorial service will take place at the Newtown United Methodist Church, 92 Church Hill Road, Sandy Hook, at 4:30 pm, Friday May 1, with a reception immediately following.
