Volunteers Vs The Litter
Volunteers Vs The Litter
To the Editor:
I would like to thank everyone who helped out on Lose the Litter Day. As usual, there were so many people and groups involved that a complete listing is impossible.
The Borough let us raise the banner along Queen Street. Fred Hurley and the Highway Department provided the gloves and bags for the volunteers and let us leave the bagged trash at the Highway Department garage. The Board of Education allowed us to use the middle school property. The Newtown Bee helped make everyone aware of the event. Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Brownies all did their part, including members of Cub Scout Packs 170 and 470 and Brownie Troop 749. My fellow Lions made the event possible by cleaning up roads and performing the countless small tasks that needed to be done.
The bulk of the work, however, was done by individuals, young and old, who pitched in to clean their own corners of town, and the day would not have been possible without their contributions.
